What is it about visiting a region that prompts us to know
its history.- How did things get this way?
- How has the unique landscape of America's Wild Rivers
Coast influenced people's lives?
- How has such a spectacular region remained so pristine?
-
With the river and ocean so available for fishing, and the
towering forests so available for logging, why the
transition to tourism as the major industry?
- What of the Native American Indian tribes inhabiting this
coastal region for so very long before Lewis and Clark ever
laid eyes on the Pacific Ocean?
Books and tales are informative, and photos can add, but
I find standing in the exact spot, especially with surroundings
preserved, can add the dimension that makes history come
alive in an up close and personal way. If I allow
myself to "live it", I sense I know what people
were feeling, the choices they faced, the decisions they made, and
an understanding of why things happened the way they did.
