People seen pedaling around America's Wild Rivers Coast seem
to fall into at least two differing categories. There
are those, dressed in shorts, T-shirt and running shoes,
that venture off on a two-wheeler dragged out from the back
of a van. In contrast are
those wearing matched jersey top & nylon tights, leather gloves
cut off at the knuckles, cleated shoes, helmet with select
decals, and are balanced atop a narrow, sleek, multi-speed, racing bike.
For this group, everything seems chosen to be coordinated, and designed
for aerodynamic efficiency.

The annual
Oregon Coast Cycling Festival takes cyclists pedaling
alongside miles and miles of pristine Pacific beaches. |
The former seem to adventure off in whatever direction
holds the most allure. Unlike these bikers, cyclists
have previewed and selected their exact routes for interest,
appeal, challenge, and keeping the prevailing winds at their
back. What the bike riders and the cyclists seem to
have in common is the sheer joy of powering themselves from
spot to spot with a quiet efficiency that slows and clears
the blurring of a windshield's passing scenery.
Cyclists again chose the region for their annual Oregon
Coast Cycling Festival. Routes parallel miles of
pristine Pacific beaches, meander along scenic rivers, and
pass tumbling waterfalls en route to their destinations.
