Of the multitude of activities available along America's
Wild Rivers Coast, beach walking seems the overall favorite.
A mutual nod, is the gesture exchanged as you
pass someone sharing the wide, long stretches of coastal
beach. The sound of crashing surf, the smell of kelp,
the feel of mist, the sight of rocky shoreline, and the
taste of salt air, all touch the senses. First one,
then another, may seem to predominate, then all together in
quick succession. A separate world can be entered
amidst a stroll on the beach.

Among the wide choice of activities,
beach walking is the overall favorite!
Repeated crescendos of crashing ocean
gradually drown out shrills of shore birds, and
crunching of sand underfoot. Smells of salty air
mix with kelp, as the wind brings a soft mist upon the
face.
On the beach, senses command immediate
attention, as well as the forgetting of work, worries
and freeways. |
America's Wild Rivers Coast has more points of access to
wide stretches of beach than anywhere else along the Pacific
Coast. Head in either direction along the coast.
Allow yourself to be drawn to the right spot, venture out,
and let your senses take over.
Whether by luck or timing, you may spot a whale spouting.
Or perhaps the tide will be out, treating to an elegant
showing, as one seashore
tide-pooling creature after another washes into
view. Bring a book and name each shell, barnacle,
starfish, and anemone. Or simply enjoy the exquisite
array of colors and shapes glistening out from their craggy
vase.
Be alert for just the right piece of driftwood to serve
as bench and set a spell. The shore birds will dance
for you, skirting in and out rhythmically with each ebb of
the waters edge. You may come across a stone, pleading
to be thrown into the surf. Many the child sees twigs,
driftwood, kelp, shells, and stones as the decorative
essentials to a fantasy castle in the sand.
Pick one spot today, and be allured to another tomorrow.
Welcome to America's Wild Rivers Coast,
101 miles of nature's best!
